Berlick and Pyatt Join MTCC Foundation Board of Directors

Wes Shelley, Chair of the MTCC Foundation Board of Directors, welcomed two new members to the board at the organization’s quarterly meeting at Universal Advanced Manufacturing Center on Wednesday, August 21st.  Scott Pyatt and Richard Berlick were nominated and voted on during the board’s May meeting.

Pyatt is a former owner and Chief Operating Officer of Catawba Brewing Company and has worked with numerous non-profit organizations over the years. Berlick is a retired Senior Vice-President of Morgan Stanley and investment manager for high-net-worth clients and institutions. Both will serve three-year terms on the Foundation Board. All members of the board are volunteers and serve without pay or other compensation.

Founded in 1977, the McDowell Technical Community College Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides financial support to students through scholarships and funding for programs, equipment, new and emerging initiatives, facilities, and other College priorities.

“We are very lucky to have Scott and Richard join the college’s Foundation Board,” said Dr. J.W. Kelley, MTCC President. “Their unique experiences in finance, management and investing will be tremendous assets to the Foundation going forward. We look forward to collaborating with them on fundraising and development issues to better serve our students and the greater college community. Welcome, gentlemen!”

Students from McDowell Technical Community College’s Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) Program and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Program graduated from their respective programs on Friday, December 13th, with instructors and administrators praising the graduates as some of the best students they have ever had the pleasure of teaching. But the thing that made them stand head-and-shoulders above many of their peers from recent graduating classes was their extraordinary volunteer service during the days following Hurricane Helene.
