Following a lengthy planning process, McDowell Technical Community College’s Emergency Medical Services Paramedic Program was recently accredited by the Committee on Accreditation for Emergency Medical Science Professions (CoAEMSP), in conjunction with the Commission on the Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

McDowell Technical Community College will continue building capacity and growing workforce development opportunities in trail construction and sustainability with a recent grant from MADE X MTNS, a partnership working to expand the outdoor industry and economy across North Carolina’s Appalachian Region and catalyze rural development.

The Practical Nursing Program at McDowell Technical Community College held the college’s annual “pinning” ceremony earlier this month, saluting the Class of 2023 as they prepare to enter the local and regional healthcare workforce.

The Crane Charitable Funds, through local partners at Crane ChemPharma Resistoflex in Marion, NC, recently presented the McDowell Technical Community College Foundation a check for $1,500.00 to support the MTCC Welding Program at McDowell Tech. The funds will be used to purchase equipment and supplies that will help welding students pursue and achieve their educational and career goals.

The Route 70 Cruisers, a local car club based in Old Fort NC, made not one, but two, donations to the McDowell Technical Community College Foundation in recent weeks in two different program areas at the college: Automotive Systems Technology and Basic Law Enforcement.

The North Carolina State Board of Community Colleges, during its meeting on Friday morning, affirmed the decision of the McDowell Technical Community College Board of Trustees to name Mr. Ryan Garrison as Interim President of McDowell Tech effective September 1, 2023.

When McDowell Technical Community College recently searched for a new lead instructor in photography following the retirement of long-time instructor Blake Madden, the perfect candidate emerged in Rose Jerome— someone capable of marrying two somewhat disparate constructs in photography: art and technology.

A new scholarship program in early childhood education at McDowell Technical Community College will significantly increase the number of credentialed employees working in childcare centers, schools and non-profit organizations, as well as those providing licensed homecare throughout Western North Carolina.

To meet local workforce development needs, McDowell Technical Community College announced this week the addition of new continuing education classes to begin later this month in the culinary and restaurant services field. Maggie Prass, who was hired earlier this year to teach part-time culinary classes, will also teach the newly scheduled classes.

McDowell Technical Community College is gearing up for a series of short-term Continuing Education and Workforce Development Classes to complement a wide range of curriculum classes which are scheduled to begin in mid-to-late August.
