Ray McKesson, retired Vice-President of Finance and Administration at McDowell Technical Community College and member of the college’s board of trustees and the MTCC Foundation, was recently awarded North Carolina’s Order of the Long Leaf Pine by Governor Roy Cooper.

McDowell Technical Community College announced today new inductees to the college’s Phi Theta Kappa and National Technical Honor Societies, as well as a select group of individuals who received a variety of departmental awards for the 2022-2023 academic year. Students were honored and received certificates in a ceremony Monday afternoon. A reception followed the ceremony.

When Sandra Ayers opened her biggest Christmas present last December, she cried. Her surprise and delight were completely understandable.

After a lifetime dedicated to teaching mathematics to thousands of college students, young and old, who came to McDowell Technical Community College in search of a better future for themselves and their families, Sandra’s husband, Robert, and her children, Andy, Jeff, Woody and LeeMarie, had pooled their money to leave a lasting legacy in her honor at McDowell Tech.

Another group of heroes-in-training completed McDowell Technical Community College’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program last Friday evening. During the group’s graduation ceremony, instructor and keynote speaker William Kehler announced that 100% of this group of students passed state competency exams at their respective levels.

McDowell Technical Community College proudly announced the recipients of the college’s third annual Alumni Awards on Monday during a ceremony held in the Crane Resistoflex Auditorium on the college’s main campus. The winners represent a cross-section of alumni who attended McDowell Tech over a period of more than 35 years.

Dr. Susan Mims (MD, MPH, FAAP), President and CEO of Dogwood Health Trust, a respected healthcare leader with over 20 years of clinical and administrative experience, will deliver McDowell Technical Community College’s annual commencement address to the Class of 2023

McDowell Technical Community College is adding two new curriculum programs this fall to meet ongoing local and regional workforce needs.

The Northwest NC MTB Alliance, a regional chapter of the Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association (SORBA), partnered with McDowell Technical Community College and brought more than 250 registered participants and their family members to Old Fort and McDowell County this week for what SORBA has described as a full-week of “trail stewardship” at the gateway to the Pisgah National Forest, where miles of new hiking and biking trails opened just this year.

McDowell Technical Community College’s photographic technology program will have a gallery exhibit of student work on display at McDowell Arts Council Association (MACA) through May 11th as part of the college’s ongoing collaboration with MACA.
