Law Enforcement Training

McDowell Technical Community College is dedicated to training new and current law enforcement personnel. The college offers two Basic Law Enforcement Training Programs. The day program is a full-time program, operating 40 hours per week. It takes approximately sixteen weeks to complete the day program. The evening program operates part-time. The evening program is Monday thru Thursday, 6:30PM-10:30PM. The evening program takes approximately nine months to complete.

Both programs offer the same training and are accredited by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. Upon successful completion of Basic Law Enforcement Training, a candidate may gain employment as a police officer or deputy sheriff at any municipal, county, or state law enforcement agency. McDowell Technical Community College is also devoted to providing extensive continuing education to current law enforcement officers. The college provides an array of in-service training every year. North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission and North Carolina Sheriff’s Education and Training Standards Commission mandates in-service law enforcement training every year. McDowell Technical Community College offers all mandated training as well as various specialized in-service training for law enforcement.
