Make a Difference in Emergency Communications

The 911 Communications & Operations program is designed to provide new students, as well as current practitioners, with knowledge and skills in the areas necessary for entrance or advancement within emergency communications.

The MTCC 911 Communications & Operations program is designed to get students trained and ready to go to work right away with little to no debt, or transfer to a 4-year university and earn a higher degree.  We emphasize real world cross-training to help bridge the skills gap of 911 and emergency dispatchers. The student will not only earn college credits for their efforts but will also earn industry sought after credentials through APCO and the NC Justice Academy. Finally, MTCC is unique in the fact that students will get to participate in live scenario based training and carry that experience with them into future employment or advancement in the emergency management and public safety field.

Coursework includes concepts and skills in telecommunication systems, basic software GIS/GPS, communications, documentation, public administration, personnel management and supervision, grant writing, professional ethics, cultural awareness, mental health awareness, and adaptation to technology within emergency communication organizations.

Graduates should qualify for employment and advancement in the public safety telecommunications field with a variety of employers, including local government emergency communications centers, county sheriff’s offices, local law enforcement, fire and EMS agencies, emergency management, and related emergency dispatch operations.
