This curriculum is designed to provide competency-based knowledge, scientific/artistic principles and hands-on fundamentals associated with the cosmetology industry. The curriculum provides a simulated salon environment which enables students to develop manipulative skills.
Course work includes instruction in all phases of professional imaging, hair design, chemical processes, skin care, nail care, multi-cultural practices, business/computer principles, product knowledge and other selected topics.
Graduates should qualify to sit for the State Board of Cosmetic Arts examination. Upon successfully passing the State Board exam, graduates will be issued a license. Employment is available in beauty salons and related businesses.
In addition to the courses listed below, students may be required to take transition/co-requisite classes based on RISE criteria. These classes do not count toward hours required for graduation.

Potential Careers
Graduates have a wide variety opportunities including booth rent and commission-based salons, spas and nail salons, franchise salons like Great Clips. Graduates could also work as an esthetician, or even open their own salon.
Work Areas
Graduates are able to work in various salons/spas located throughout McDowell County and Western NC as well as opening their own salon. These salons may offer various services ranging from full service salons to specialty salons such as Nails Salons, Natural Hair care, Skin care studios and more.
