- Students pursuing a degree in the human services field (including substance abuse) should be aware that employers in this field may require prospective volunteers, interns, and employees to undergo medical examinations, criminal background checks, drug & alcohol screenings, immunization verification, and citizenship verification before they are allowed to work at an organization.
