Student Award Terms and Conditions

Government Aid Programs

1. I understand that my financial aid file is complete since I have received an award letter notification from the McDowell Technical Community College (MTCC) Financial Aid Office.

2. I understand that my financial aid application will remain valid for one academic year (July 1–June 30) and I must reapply for financial aid each academic year.

3. I understand that I may not receive financial aid funds from more than one institution during the same semester within the same academic year. I will notify the Financial Aid Office if I have attended or plan to attend another college. Notification must be received prior to awarding for that semester.

4. I understand award amounts may be subject to change based on enrollment status, available funding, and/or regulatory changes. Awards shown are based on full-time enrollment. Aid is prorated as follows:

  • ¾ Time = 9 to 11 credit hours
  • ½ Time = 6 to 8 credit hours
  • Less than Half Time = 5 credit hours or fewer

5. I understand that recipients of NC Community College Grant and North Carolina Lottery Scholarship funds must be enrolled in at least six credit hours. The full-time award requires 15 or more credit hours. Students with fewer than 15 credits will receive a prorated award.

6. I understand that I can receive no more than six years or twelve full-time semesters of financial aid in my lifetime (applies to Federal Pell Grant and all NC State Grants).

7. I understand that my award is conditional upon enrollment in an eligible program, submission of official high school or GED transcripts, and any other required documentation.

8. I understand that I may only receive financial aid for classes within my program of study at MTCC.

9. I understand financial aid will not pay for classes that are audited or for which I receive credit by examination.

10. I understand I am responsible for reading and understanding MTCC’s Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy, available on the MTCC website or in the course handbook.

11. I understand that I may charge books, supplies, uniforms, and food vouchers in the MTCC bookstore before each semester begins, as long as the charges are related to my program of study.

12. I understand I am not required to purchase books from the MTCC bookstore. Books purchased elsewhere must be paid for out of pocket.

13. I understand that if I register for a class that begins after the semester starts, funds will not be available for that class until enrollment is confirmed.

14. I understand I must attend all classes in which I’m enrolled to avoid being reported as a “No Show.” If reported, my financial aid will be recalculated and I may be responsible for any tuition or fees incurred.

15. I understand that financial aid covers a maximum of 30 semester credit hours in Developmental or Remedial classes. Additional hours beyond this limit are not covered.

16. I am responsible for paying any tuition, fees, bookstore charges, or other costs not covered by financial aid, including if I become ineligible due to academic progress or enrollment status.

17. I understand that if I withdraw or am withdrawn from all courses, I must notify the MTCC Financial Aid Office and may be subject to the Federal Return of Funds policy, which could result in repayment to MTCC or the U.S. Department of Education.

18. I understand that if I complete a short-term class (first 4 or 8 weeks) and then withdraw from full-term classes, I will still be subject to the Federal Return of Funds policy.

19. I understand that it is my responsibility to check my go.mcdowelltech.edu email regularly, as this is the primary communication method from the Financial Aid Office.
