MTCC Alumni Awards

Each year we honor and recognize individuals who have made outstanding contributions and exceptional accomplishments in their chosen career; significant contributions to their community and the lives of others; and/or exceptional service in support of McDowell Technical Community College.

Alumnus is defined as someone who has received a degree, diploma, or certificate from MTCC since 1964.

Three Categories of Awards

Distinguished Alumni Award: Recognizes an alumnus who has served with exceptional distinction, has had a sustained and outstanding career, or made significant contributions to MTCC or the wider community.

Outstanding Divisional Alumni Awards: Awarded to alumni from College Transfer, Health Sciences, and Technical and Workforce Development programs for achievement in profession, civic/community service, or college involvement.

Young Alumni Award: Given to two categories:

• Alumni aged 35 or younger with exceptional achievements in career, service, or volunteerism.
• Recent graduates (within 3 years) who embody the late Dr. Dallas Herring’s philosophy: “taking people where they are and carrying them as far as they can go.”
