McDowell Tech to Host “Touch-A-Truck” for Health Coalition’s Summer THRIVE Finale!

The McDowell County Health Coalition will wrap up it’s family-friendly outdoor series, Summer THRIVE, on Saturday, August 17th with a special “Touch-A-Truck” event hosted by McDowell Tech in the Wells Fargo Bank parking lot on Main Street in Marion. The Summer THRIVE Program began in June with weekly events at the Marion Community Park every Saturday from 10 am to 12 noon. The Touch-A-Truck grand finale will also be from 10 am to noon, but in the bank parking lot.

This year marks the third consecutive year that McDowell Tech has hosted the Touch-A-Truck Summer THRIVE finale, which is growing in popularity each year. Almost 500 participants attended last year’s event.

Dr. J.W. Kelley, President of McDowell Technical Community College, shared his excitement about the event. “Summer THRIVE offers a fantastic opportunity for our community to unite and participate in enjoyable, educational activities. It’s heartwarming to see families and children discovering the various vehicles and learning about different careers. We are honored to support this remarkable initiative, which has become a beloved tradition in McDowell County.”

The Touch-A-Truck event promises an array of exciting activities and attractions. Participants will have the opportunity to explore police cars, fire trucks, SWAT vehicles, and various emergency service vehicles. Additionally, children can get up close and personal with construction vehicles like dump trucks, excavators, and skid steers, making for a thrilling and educational experience.

To add to the fun, Pelican’s SnoBalls will be available free of charge for all attendees, offering a refreshing treat to beat the summer heat. McDowell Tech will also showcase its virtual reality equipment, providing a unique and immersive experience for young and old alike.

“McDowell Tech is honored to host this FREE event,” said Stacy Buff, Vice-President of Workforce Development at McDowell Tech. “This is a great opportunity for our community to come together and celebrate adventure, career exploration and learning in a family-friendly environment. We look forward to seeing everyone there!”
