Emergency Communications and Weather Announcements

On-Campus Emergencies

In the event of an on-campus emergency, instructors and administrators have procedures available to assist them in creating the safest possible environment for you and your fellow students or employees. When necessary, emergency communications are provided to employees at their computer station and to everyone via loudspeakers on the main campus, when appropriate.

Alerts and Text Messages

Students, faculty and staff may also sign up for alerts and text messages when they are on campus by clicking on the following link and completing the sign-up information as requested. Please not that you cannot complete the sign-up using the “guest” network on wifi. Once you have completed the registration process, you will receive alerts and messages throughout the year, including weather-related announcements.

Phone Messages

Students may access a recorded phone message for school-wide emergency announcements or class cancellations or delays for all curriculum and continuing education classes by calling 659-0419. This number may be accessed at any time, but please listen carefully to ascertain whether the announcement you are listening to is current for the day in question.

Social Media, Gmail and GroupWise

Students may check their college Gmail account for emergency announcements and weather-related closings and delays. Faculty and staff may access the same information by logging in to GroupWise at work or home.

We will also update our Facebook and Twitter accounts with weather-related announcements and emergency communications when appropriate. Links to our social media accounts are provided at the top of our home page.

Local Emergency Personnel

We will alert local emergency officials when there are emergencies on campus and when there are upcoming closings or delays due to inclement weather. They will share information with the public at their discretion via their own social media and text messaging accounts.

Media

When it becomes necessary to close, discontinue or delay classes, an announcement will be made to local and regional radio and television stations as soon as possible. Morning announcements will be made by 6:15 am for day classes. However, as weather in this area can change rapidly, please stay tuned for additional updates when a delay has been announced. Announcements concerning evening classes will be made over the same stations during the afternoon, generally by 3:00 pm. There is no abbreviated schedule for evening classes.
